Our Story

Upon their graduation from South Dakota State University in 1979, John Bush and Jeff Heppler started the company with Ken and Carmen Heppler. Both graduated with B.S. Degrees in Landscape Design with John concentrating on horticulture and Jeff on business. Ken Heppler owned an agricultural feed business and shared the same facilities. The businesses were run out of a house for a number of years. The first greenhouse, constructed in March of 1980, was a 20' x 50' wood structure. The retail showroom measured 20' x 16' and only had a 7' ceiling. John and Jeff worked out of an old GMC pickup and a new Ford tractor, doing most all the work by hand. They bought their first truck in the fall of 1980 after a successful first season.

The business grew steadily and in 1988 the first engineered greenhouse was constructed. It measured 24' x 80'. The 1990's saw rapid development in growth and facilities. In 1990 a 40' x 60' building was constructed for a retail showroom. In 1992 a 40' x 40' office building was constructed. In 1995, two more 24' x 80' engineered greenhouses expanded total greenhouse space to over 12,000 square feet.

Our present operation consists of six install crews, three service technicians, and a complete Garden Center staff.
